Frequently Asked Questions

"Isn't your electric bill really high?" - For 2011 we will be using about 20% led lights, which use about 10 times less power. At any given time during our light show, only about 30% of the lights are on, so the increase in our bill is only about 65% for 2 months.

"How many extension cords do you use?" - For 2011 we will be using at least 3,500 feet of extension cords. Because our display is spread out, and our front yard measures over 100 feet from our house to the road, we need to use a LOT of extension cords.

"How many individual lights are in the show?" - For 2011 we are planning to use at least 30,000 individual bulbs. We are doubling the amount of lights we used in 2010.

"How do you get the lights to flash, fade and move like that?" - We use Light-O-Rama controllers that are connected to a computer. The controllers get their input from special software that we program manually. Each song and sequence can take 8-12 hours to program, so it takes some committment to do it right. My son Gage learned it so quickly that he is already sequencing like a pro! More than 50% of our show will be done by him, and yes, I'm very proud of him.

"Where do you get the displays from, like your light fan?" - We built all our displays, with the exception of the reindeer we use. Click on the "Pictures" page under the Media tab to see different phases of the construction process.
